Frequently Asked Pet Questions!
  1. How often does my dog need to be vaccinated?
  • Answer:  Puppies should be vaccinated between six to eight weeks of age and monthly until at least sixteen weeks of age.  We recommend that you keep your puppy from high risk exposure areas such as the city parks, etc. until at least the second vaccination, but preferably after the third vaccination.
  1. Does my cat need heartworm protection?
  • Answer:  That would entirely depend upon the location of the cat’s home.  We have had two positive heartworm cases in felines at the East Lohman Vet Clinic.  Both cats lived very close to the river.  If there are many mosquitoes in your area, heartworm preventative is recommended.  Heartworm is very hard to diagnose in cats; therefore the prevention is much easier.
  1. At what age should I spay my pet?
  • Answer:  We like to wait until the pet is fully vaccinated and four to six months of age.  Studies have shown that early spaying prevents hormone related problems such as mammary tumors in females and hormone related tumors in males.
